Alongside the monument to Alyosha, Lenin Nuclear Icebreaker is another symbol of Murmansk and an absolute must-see. The legendary ship of an immense size never fails to impress visitors from all over the world.
For thirty years, the Lenin Icebreaker cleared sea routes for cargo vessels along the northern coast of Russia.
The significance of the first-ever nuclear icebreaker is about the same as that of the rocket in which Gagarin flew into space. It’s amazing how much thought, creativity, and physical work was put into building a ship that breaks through the ice! The people behind the project were true conquerors of the north.
The icebreaker is very-well preserved — about 90% of its parts are authentic. The ship also boasts the most advanced technical equipment of the time, as well as cabins and shared areas lavishly decorated in the art deco style. Do not miss!
