Winzavod (lit. Winery) is a place of contemporary Russian art. It hosts leading galleries and organizes public educational programs.
The Center for Contemporary Art WinZavod is located on the territory of the oldest Moscow combine of grape and dessert wines, the former brewery "Moscow Bavaria".
The history of the factory starts at the beginning of the XIX century. Then, in the estate of Princess Ekaterina Volkonskaya, the merchant of the second guild, Friedrich Danielson, opened a brewery.
In 1889 Travnikovs merchants founded the Moscow combine of grape and dessert wines, which produced its own products from fruits and berries and poured grape wines, brought from the Crimea and from the Caucasus.
In Soviet period, the combine expanded the range of produced wines: during the year, up to 170 names of ordinary and vintage wines were produced.
At the end of the 20th century, the combine closed production, and in 2007 WinZavod opened its galleries on this territory.
Winzavod is one of the first and biggest private contemporary art centers in Russia was Founded in 2007.
The idea of this place is to support Russian contemporary art by uniting all areas of culture in one space that is open to public and creating a comfortable environment for its development.
Leading Moscow contemporary art galleries, workshops of artists, designers and photographers, cafes, show rooms, a bookstore, and many other facilities populate Winzavod.
Founded in 2008, the Winzavod Fund for the Support of Contemporary Art helps young artists create their projects.
Works daily on 4th Syromyatnichesky lane 1/8, Metro Kurskaya Most of the exhibitions are free.
