The Hermitage Garden may not be one of the largest recreation areas in Moscow, yet it is still popular with the locals and tourists. This space is located right in the center of Moscow and is considered a masterpiece of garden art.
There are cozy pavilions, terraces and busts (Victor Hugo and Dante Aligeri). For those who want to relax and unwind, there are many benches in the shade of trees.
The history of the Hermitage Garden started in 1891 when a new theatre was opened here. The garden itself was a place for open-air concerts with open stage. Soon it became a modern cultural sight, where premieres, operas and benefices were held.
It still performs this function. There are three theatres located in the garden: The Novaya Opera, Hermitage and Sphera. At summertime Moscow International Outdoor Jazz Festival takes place here.
