When traveling, it is always great to take some time to climb the highest point in the town and admire a breathtaking bird's-eye view. This gives some feeling of freedom and peace.
One of the highest mountains in Sochi, the 663-meter Akhun is very popular among tourists from all over the world. The reason for this is the observation tower built on its top upon Stalin’s order. The tower offers a breathtaking 360’ view of Sochi, Adler and the surrounding countryside.
The place is easy to reach by car. Google will readily guide you along a narrow serpentine mountain road (just be careful and don’t drive too fast!). The drive up the mountain may be a bit challenging but otherwise it is a beautiful experience in itself.
The rest of the way to the tower is a pedestrian route. As your path to the tower will lie through a shopping street, you will hardly leave without a souvenir. There are also nice cafes there, if you need to satisfy your hunger. Finally, after climbing stone stairs, you will reach the tower and enjoy spectacular views!
Although you will have a better view of the surroundings in clear weather, there is a certain charm to climbing the mountain when it is foggy, too. Enveloped in haze, the tower looks magical and somewhat surreal against the gorgeous natural background.
