Located in Krasnodar Krai in the south of Russia, Gelendzhik is known as ‘the heart of Kuban’. The history of the small resort town dates back to the stone age.
Gelendzhik is Russia’s ‘little paradise’. It has warm winters, moderately hot summers and 250 sunny days in a year. It also boasts natural beauty and great ecology. Here, amidst the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea, the air is wonderfully fresh and people from all over Russia come here to improve their health.
Once in Gelendzhik, make sure you visit the ‘Golden Bay’ waterpark (the largest in Russia), and the Safari Park with tigers, lions and white bears. One more ‘not to miss’ experience is a ride in a cableway. From the height of 340 meters, the views of the city are spectacular!
Other gems of Gelendzhik include the strikingly beautiful waterfalls on the Zhane River, the Parus (Sail) Rock, the gracious ‘White Bride’ sculpture on the Central Promenade, and the ancient dolmens. The latter is a special spiritual site where you can ‘take a dive’ into the depth of history. By the way, if you are interested in archeological finds, you will enjoy visiting the Local History Museum.
And if you want to see the town in its full glory, come on the first Saturday of June when they hold the annual carnival parade. The show is spectacular!
