Curonian Spit is a long sand dune separating the Baltic Sea from the Curonian Lagoon. One of the top attractions in Kaliningrad area, it offers an extraordinary landscape and spectacular views. Beautiful seaside, white sand dunes, lovely beaches and a dark mysterious forest — what more can you want if you are a nature lover? Part of the dune belongs to Lithuania — actually, the territory is equally divided between the two countries.
The three main points of interest on the Russian side include the Ornothological Station, the largest sand dunes (Epha's Height and Mueller's Height) and the Dancing Forest. The latter is quite something to see — the bare twisted trees make you feel like you are in a fairy tale, and no one has solved their mystery yet.
There are direct public bus routes to the spit you can take from Kaliningrad, Zelenogradsk and Svetlogorsk.
