Trains between Moscow and St. Petersburg
Sapsan is a modern high-speed train, which has been going from Moscow to St. Petersburg since December 2009. The speed of the train is up to 240 km / h. The distance between two Russian capitals is covered in just 4 hours or even less.
The price of Sapsan trains (like all other Russian trains) highly depends on the date of departure and the date of purchace. So, what are the ways to find Sapsan tickets cheaper?
1. Buy tickets in advance. At the start of sales (60 days before), a ticket costs half the price than usual. This price lasts no more than a day until a certain number of tickets are purchased. Then the price increases by about 25% of the original, then once more, and so on.
2. When buying tickets of a particular class, pay attention to the price of a ticket to a higher class. Changes in cost for each of the classes occur separately. As a rule, Economy class tickets sold out first - therefore, the price rises faster.
3. Keep track of discounts and promotions. From time to time, special promotions are valid for Sapsan tickets.
However, if you wish to feel the atmosphere of a classic Russian night train, then you should consider taking one of the branded trains from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Buses depart from different metro stations in Moscow: Tushinskaya, Dynamo, Krasnoselskaya, Savelovskaya, Rechnoy Vokzal. Buses arrive in St. Petersburg on Obvodny Canal, Ploshchad Vosstaniya, Bucharest, Pushkinskaya, Moskovskaya.
Perhaps the fastest way to move between the "two capitals" is by plane. The flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg will take just 1 hour 30 minutes. The cost of round-trip tickets - from 1400 rubles. Most popular airlines: Aeroflot, UTair, Transaero, S7 Airlines and others.
You can also overcome the distance between Moscow and St. Petersburg by bus. Buses run from Tushinskaya and Myakinino metro stations. Leaving daily in the evening – at around 22 hours they arrive in St. Petersburg at about 9 in the morning.
St. Petersburg can also be reached by car. Travel time will be from 8 to 12 hours, depending on traffic jams. Most of the trip is by the federal highway M10 (E105) "Russia", the highway Moscow - St. Petersburg. In order to avoid traffic jams, it is better to hit the road early in the morning.
